Advances in Epigenetics:
From Mechanisms to Medicine

Epigenetic regulation is emerging as a central theme in understanding complex biological processes and disease mechanisms. Epigenetics refers to the study of heritable changes in gene expression that do not involve alterations to the underlying DNA sequence. These changes are often governed by chemical modifications, including DNA methylation and histone modification, that influence how genes are turned on or off. Epigenetic mechanisms play a critical role in development, cell differentiation, and responses to environmental signals. They are increasingly recognized as key contributors to diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders, and developmental defects. In this conference, leading experts will highlight how recent advances in novel sequencing technologies, computational tool development, and emerging conceptual frameworks for studying epigenetics are transforming our understanding of gene regulation, tumor evaluation, and precision medicine.

Deadline for design submissions:  Monday, August 4, 2025

It is time for the Logo Design Contest for our Annual Research Conference, which carries with it a prize of $250 for the winning logo!

Contest Guidelines:

  • Designs should be in full color. All graphics should be in the highest resolution possible, as the logo will be used in all promotional materials.
  • Consideration should be given to the reproducibility of the design: clear, clean designs are the best for reproduction.
  • Submissions must be accompanied by a detailed legend which describes the important components of the design and credits all individuals, institutions, etc. who contributed to the design.
  • The submission should include the three following items: 1) the title of the conference-Advances in Epigenetics: From Mechanisms to Medicine, 2) 35th Keck Annual Research Conference, and 3) the date of the conference, but they don’t necessarily need to be in the logo itself.
  • Do not use copyrighted material. Do not copy from other copyrighted designs, including clipart or other downloadable images. No AI systems may be used to generate your image.
  • OPEN TO ALL! Must be a US Resident.

Your final submission must be your independent work and not a modification of an existing image. When you submit your image, you will be asked to affirm that the submission is your own original work.

The winning designer / design team will be awarded the $250 prize (if to a team, $250 to the team to be divided as the team chooses). Logo contest submissions may be sent via email to Elizabeth Lawrence el53@rice.edu. In the case of large files, please provide a link to an FTP server or other alternate file transfer protocol.

Please share this contest information with your lab and anyone else interested.
